First speaking event of the year - Australian Student Leadership Conference 2022
Here we go again!
First speaking gig this year started off online (quite poetic for the pandemic times we're still in). I was invited to be a Guest Speaker on Day 2 of the Australian Student Leadership Conference in Melbourne in January, 2022.
This was a 3-day conference for students to gain leadership skills as they enter their final year of school as badged leaders, as well as connecting with other like-minded leaders from across Victoria. As a former school captain back in 2018 (I feel so old), this was one of those events which I was very excited to give a talk at.
When I was told that this was for school students, and that it would entail a "heap of energy and chill vibes", I had to dress the part. On my lunch break, I decided to pop on the hat backwards and put on the notorious Chicago Bulls t-shirt - just so the kids know that I'm cool and young you know?. I'm actually a Bucks fan but that shirt was in the wash but we make do with what we have!
It was a very engaging event to kick start the year and the number of direct messages I received via social media from students afterwards made me feel relieved that I was able to resonate with them about leadership, taking action and overcoming fear. The talk was titled 'Leadership in action'.
Attached below is my favourite message from the bunch. Creating curiosity through my own journey, and then hoping to inspire action is the reason I love this passion of being a speaker.
Lovely kids with a bright future indeed!
As always, there's ambition in my coffee - I hope it's in yours too!
